I have never been the coach to build my client base by bragging about how much money I make in my biz. Honestly, I never really thought it was anyone’s business but my own. In this digital age – RESULTS matter and the proof is in the pudding.
Did I come out of the ballpark making 6-figures in my biz? HELL. TO. THE. NO.
In fact, my first year in business – sucked. I had an okay looking website, a fantastic logo, and no clients. I was doing all of the things the “gurus” said would make a difference and none of it worked. Luckily, I was still working a full-time job and could afford to pay my bills… and maintain my lifestyle.
Then one day it hit me… I was doing everything, that everyone… said I should – but I was doing it their way and not my own. Even when it didn’t make sense for me… or my biz – because that’s how I was told to do – I did it.
I made the decision to give myself a do-over.
I was tired of owning an expensive ass hobby, and I realized I desired to own a biz that loved me back.Telling myself I need to make changes was easy; the hard part came in making the changes. So, like the city chick I am – I went out and purchased a super cute notebook and wrote out all of my ideas. They were great. But guess what – nothing changed. My changes did not come until I made the decision that I was COMPLETELY OVER OWNING A BROKE BUSINESS.
Want to know how I shifted to barely earning $500 a month to being able to pay off over $72,000 in student loan debt in under three years? Well, keep reading. I’m dropping the 9 Biz Decisions That I Don’t Regret Making below.
9 Biz Decisions That I Don’t Regret Making
1: I committed. I made the decision to go all in! I showed up for my business. Doing this allowed me to attract my dream clients and connect with fellow industry leaders.
2: I hired a coach. In fact, I hired too many coaches. I wanted to learn so much and because I was told I had to invest at the level in which I wanted to see a return… I over invested. I had so much information in my head, in a notebook, and on my Macbook that I had to comb through it all to figure out what exactly I needed. This is my favorite decision. Because I was overcoached… it led me to develop Romance Your Hustle, my signature program for femalepreneurs who want to build their brand parallel to their 9-5.
3: I quit being the COE (Chief of Everything) for my business, and I opened an Elance account. Seriously, there are professionals in the world who are skilled at being administrative assistants, web developers, graphic designers, bookkeepers… the whole nine. I needed to focus on other areas of my business; I divorced being a “know-it-all”.
4: I realized I could not.. and would no longer be everything to everyone. Some people will not fit into your grand plan… and I accepted that was okay.
5: I gave up on procrastination. I battle procrastination daily. In complete transparency, it has taken me over six months to start this biz blog. But I know that if I am truly committed to my business, this was an important step. Want to learn more tricks on how I divorced procrastination? Check out my free guide (link here).
6: I stopped trying to be the new BFF for every person in my industry. I chill with those I get along with, and I’m cordial to everyone else. I realized I could not be fully committed to my business if I was always worrying what others thought about me.
7: I opened myself up to fear. In 2012, Bloomberg reported that 8 out of 10 business fail in their first 18 months. No one likes to fail and if we think we might – we give up. I made the decision that I could not build an amazing business if I was scared of failing.
8: I refused to give up. I kept repeating something my Gran used to tell me, “No quitters live here”. Even when I thought NOTHING was working – I knew that something was.
9: I never, ever… forget my why. I’ve always known that my purpose in life is to empower women. It wasn’t until late 2013 that I understood how I was going to be of service. I realized that empowering women did not have to be tied to a role in a non-profit organization. I made the decision to blend my passion for business branding with my purpose to empower women. It’s perfect… and I am completely in love with what I do.
